Public Lover (Bruno Pronsato & Ninca Leece) locked themselves away in their quiet Prenzlauer Berg studio in January. Even though the winter was hard and the snow infected a sort of melancholy, their mission of creating music for summer was unquestionably successful. No19 Music has continued to build an enviable reputation in 2010 with tracks and remixes from the likes of Jimmy Edgar, Soul Clap, Mr G & Alex Jones creating quite a stir. Now the Toronto powerhouse rolls on with a brand new single from the much respected Teeloo, featuring two brand new tracks and two superb remixes. Teeloo has made name for himself in his native Canada with his eclectic Dj and production style, playing opening sets for the likes of Hawtin, Sneak and Green Velvet whilst in the studio providing some of the most memorable tracks and remixes for No.19 Music. Now he steps up with his first solo artist single for the label and in doing so shows his leftfield sensibilities and remarkable production talents. The single opens with 'Habitant' a brilliant slice of future-retro cinematic excellence. Deeply atmospheric and almost beatless, the rich melodic elements blend with spacious percussion parts and live instruments to give a filmic vibe reminiscent of Lalo Schifrin, and that is high praise indeed! The second of the original tracks, 'Esso', is a journey into deep, hypnotic house music, with wonderfully understated drum programming, restrained melodies and an incredibly emotive tone brought on it part by the simple tribal vocal samples, class stuff. On to the remixes, and first up we have Ripperton with his first production since the release of his stunning long player on Green. Here he turns in an epic re-interpretation of 'Habitant', a near nine minute opus that draws the heart and soul from the original and blends it into a forceful slice of brooding tech edged house that makes it quite clear why this producer has made such an impact on the electronic music scene during his career. Finally label co-owner and production favorite Nitin sets about rebuilding 'Esso' into a pulsing slab of electronic, dubby house that is a pure joy. We keep the Curle-P subdivision for rare licenses of forgotten pearls from the past, with a new remix on the flip. The last one we did was Thomas Brinkmann's 'Isch' including the Soulphiction remix, one of the essential records of 2009, also according to Pitchfork. This time we picked Walt J's 'Reborn', originally on Detroit label Dow in 1997 and featured by Mr. Juan Atkins on his legendary MasterMix. Good Guy Mikesh is well known for his track “Milk & Honey” which was on the Fabric 51 by DJ T. and formerly released by Liebe*Detail Spezial. With the single „Spare“, Good Guy Mikesh proves his talent for contemporary Club- and Popmusic. A rough and sometimes dark baseline layer underlines the magnificent detuned vocals. „Spare“ is a song that can enchant us listeners either in the club context or at home. ID10TS (can be pronounced Idiots) is a new experimental beats project that features Andrei from Alexandroid whose 'Short Cuts' was one of the many overlooked masterpieces released on the Lo Recordings label some years ago, along with Pavel who is art director of one of the best clubs in Moscow and Ilya who according to Rolling Stone (Russian edition) is one of the top 5 guitar players in Russia. So a whole heap of talent on one black disc. The second and final part to Mossa’s massive album is Festine pt.2.
